Geneva, Mynderse, and Naples
all secure spots for the 2009 Team Championship
The Finger Lakes League has announced their division champions for the 2008
season. Geneva (East Division) will participate in Class A Team
Championship for the second year in a row at the Country Club of Mendon in May
and defending Class B champions Mynderse Academy (Central Division), along with
first-time participant Naples (West Division), will compete in the Class B
tournament. Naples defeated last year's Class B runner-up Honeoye in a
playoff for the right to go to the tournament.

Maloney and LeBrun co-medal
at Finger Lakes Qualifier, 10 others qualify for Individual Championship
Jered Maloney of Honeoye and Andrew LeBrun of Mynderse both had rounds of
one-over-par 73 to finish as co-medalists of the 2008 Finger Lakes Individual
Qualifier at Old Hickory Golf Course in Livonia. Maloney will be making
his second consecutive trip to the Individual Championship and LeBrun will be
making his first appearance.
Two of LeBrun's Mynderse teammates, T.J. Pezzulo
and Josh Durso, also qualified with rounds of 77 and 78 respectively, giving the
defending Class B team champions three qualifiers, the most of any Finger Lakes
school. Pezzulo and Durso are both making their second appearance in the
Individual Championship.
A pair of Geneva and Canandaigua golfers made it
through the qualifying stage. Matt DeJohn (Geneva) will return to the
championship for a second time after finishing in a tie for 3rd place with a
round of 74. Teammate Matt Johnson finished in a three-way tie for 10th
place, reaching the championship for the first time on the cut line after a
round of 79. Canandaigua teammates Tanner Scharr and Matt McCarthy
finished in a three-way tie for 6th place with Pezzulo at 77. Both will be
first-time participants at Brook-Lea.
Rounding out the qualifiers and first-time
qualifiers for the Individual Championship were Jeff Kline of Waterloo, who
finished in the tie for 3rd place with DeJohn at 74, Alex Covert of Romulus
after a round of 75 to finish alone in 5th place, and Bobby James (Penn Yan) and
Ryan Miller (Wayne), who both finished in the 10th place tie with Johnson at 79.
All of these players have advanced to play at
Brook-Lea Country Club on Monday, May 18, 2009 in the Individual Championships.
Tee times and instructions will be available as the tournament nears this
spring.
