SECTION V GOLF APPROVES EXPANSION OF
TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
On October 24, the Section V Golf Committee voted unanimously to expand the
field for the Section V Golf Team Championship, pending Section V Executive
Council approval..
Several details pertaining to the championship were voted on by the committee. Those details are listed below.
After discussion, for a league to send more than one representative, it must have at least NINE member teams in a two-division format.
Invite all 17 divisional winners or league champions from the nine leagues in Section V Golf.
Reduce the amount of players per team from SIX to FIVE, thus reducing the amount of scores that will count for the team from FIVE to FOUR. Tiebreaking systems will remain the same as last year's event.
After discussion, the school population (grades 9-11) cutoff will be as follows:
Class A (500+)
Class B (0-499)
This will be on a sliding scale. If there are more than TEN schools in either class, accommodations will be made where schools will have to change classes based on the student population numbers.
Example: 11 teams have qualified for the Class A championship, 7 teams have qualified for the Class B championship. Livonia, with an enrollment of 533, was the lowest populated Class A team to qualify. They would move to Class B for the tournament ensuring that no more than TEN teams would participate in the Class A event and no smaller than EIGHT in the Class B event.
